A Ton of Anime Updates Dropped During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays provide a multitude of pastimes much better than catching up on the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and using patience techniques to not arguing with loved ones. I hope you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling announcements came out during the festive period, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)

Truly the most shocking revelation, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they easily could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the promotional image for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, at this point, they could be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now the community is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in production, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio famous for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
