Air travel have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended because of an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

That said, considerable delays are expected to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had initially projected that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the current status on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.

Travelers are still being urged to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the airport as knock-on effects are cleared.
