More than two weeks subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the pair.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Sharing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, stated he just recently felt prepared to share openly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has passed that I can at last express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor uploaded archival material from the production, adding that he doesn't recollect "any day without joy".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Values that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, stating: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I remember you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Fellow Artist
In a distinct tribute, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved being with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the lead role.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with everyone, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles court official ruled to bar the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive issued a restriction on the cases to limit the public release of "any investigative information, documents, files or images" connected to the active case.
The coroner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a official listing listing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the tragedy, public individuals shared different responses.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, providing controversial claims that were broadly criticized by several individuals.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his criticism to the detractors recently. Conversing on his podcast, Rogan labeled the comments as "disturbing" and suggested they revealed a troubling lack of empathy.
Rogan ended by proposing that an associate should have intervened when the impulse to weigh in on the death was made.
